My step son shows severe alexithymia...
His father and I really thought of severe shyness at first (when he was 3 years old) but today with our 5 children, and we live this difference day by day.... His mom doesn't seem to be willing to see the major difficulties he's having, and her support his rather none... He lives with us half of the time : a week over and the next over his mom. She seems to say that the things we see are difficult for him, doesn't exist at all over her house.
We are trying to seek for help, all this is completely new for us and we have lost 3 years in misjudging his condition over a severe shyness problem...
